Avoca Village Avoca Village, with a population of less than 500, rose to international fame in the mid-1990s when it was chosen as the set for the BBC series "Ballykissangel." Fitzgerald's Irish Pub was the main filming location for the show and remains the focal point of the town. Avoca also features a gift shop, a post office and the famous Avoca Handweavers Mill. The Avoca Handweavers is know throughout the country for its beautiful woven articles of clothing and accessories such as blankets and baskets. It was established in 1723 and is Ireland's oldest surviving business. Visitors are invited to look around the weaving sheds.
